APPROACH
Theoretical/project based
The course is divided in two modules and aims at consolidating the previously acquired technical knowledge. The students will deal with complex stage machinery, and will recreate a set starting form an artist’s work.
The total credits for this course are 10, divided as follows:
ADVANCED SCENE DESIGN: 5 CFA
SCENE DESIGN PROJECTS: 5 CFA
Successful students will be able to:
ADVANCED SCENE DESIGN:
Execute technical drawings related to the issues surfaced form the analysed art performances
Understand the technical issues of the analysed prose and opera performances
SCENE DESIGN PROJECTS:
Carry out a 3D, real-size reconstruction of the bi-dimensional world of an artist or photographer
Create scene elements and props
Create costumes
Shoot a video on a set
ADVANCED SCENE DESIGN:
Analysis of existing prose and opera performances, with a focus on the following elements:
Complex machinery and metal structures
Storage of two or more stage sets on the grid deck
Pools
Special effects: snow, rain, fire, etc.
Stage safety (railings, harnesses...)
Projections and light effects on tulle
SCENE DESIGN PROJECTS:
Analysis of a painting or photograph
Research of materials
Real-size recreation of a set, starting from an artist’s work
Development of a video project with on-set actors
This is a theoretical/project based course.
Over the course, the students will carry out the following didactic activities, which may vary depending on the projects to be developed.
Front lectures
Use of tutorials, videos or other multi-media material
Exercises and revisions
Laboratories
Individual or group projects
Individual or group study and research
Assessment tools may include:
Oral exam
Submission of papers, essays or project work
Comprehensive projects

The final grade will result from the weighted average of the programme modules.
