APPROACH
Theoretical/project based
This course aims at providing the students with basic tools to deal with the complex theme of set preparation, from the creative to the execution phase. The course is divided in two modules, with a more creative one, and a more technical one. It introduces basic representation and visualisation techniques that rely on manual technical drawing. The didactic method revolves around practical exercises, that are specific to each module.
The total credits for this course are 10, divided as follows:
BASIC SET DESIGN: 6 CFA
PROJECT SET DESIGN: 4 CFA
By the end of the programme, successful students will be able to:
BASIC SET DESIGN:
Identify the visual code of the analysed project
Understand the tools used in geometric drawing
Recreate spaces in a simplified way, through conceptual and visual synthesis tools
PROJECT SET DESIGN:
Be familiar with all the elements that are part of a stage
Identify the components of a set
Develop architectural drawings for scene elements
BASIC SET DESIGN:
Detailed study of an existing project (film, show...)
Development of a moodboard
Creation of maps and sections using metric scales
Creation of executive drawings of space and furniture
Development of a scale model
PROJECT SET DESIGN:
Stage, structure and main elements
Understanding the evolution of the scenic space: from Italian-style painted sets to built-sets
Development of architectural drawings for scene elements
Development of scale models
This is a theoretical/project based course.
Over the course, the students will carry out the following didactic activities, which may vary depending on the projects to be developed.
Front lectures
Use of tutorials, videos or other multi-media material
Exercises and revisions
Laboratories
Individual or group projects
Individual or group study and research
Assessment tools may include:
Verbal exams
Submission of papers, projects or research work
Further details about the exams will be provided by the professors.
The final grade will result from the weighted average of the programme modules.
