What is sub-degree program 甚麼是副學位?

Sub-degree programs are post-secondary education, encompassing Associate Degree and Higher Diploma programs, which aim to meet the demand of the society in preparing secondary school leavers for further study and employment. These programs can be considered partial degree programs as they are generally considered and accepted as half of a 4-year bachelor's degree program.

副學位課程為專上教育，包括副學士及高級文憑課程，旨在為中六畢業生的升學及就業作好準備。 這些課程可以被視為部分學位課程，它們通常被認為是四年制學士學位課程的一半並被廣泛接受。

What is the difference between Associate Degree and Higher Diploma? 副學士和高級文憑有何區別？

In general, Associate Degree programs put more emphasis on general education, while Higher Diploma programs put more focus on the knowledge in specialized disciplines.

Both awards are considered equivalent and eligible to apply for bachelor’s degree programs offered by local or overseas universities, or civil services positions.

一般而言，副學士課程更注重通識教育，而高級文憑課程則更注重專業學科的知識。

這兩種課程在資歷架構上是同等的，皆可用於申請本地或海外大學提供的學士學位課程，或公務員職位。

Articulation of sub-degree graduates 副學位畢業生的銜接

To provide more opportunities for sub-degree graduates to pursue further studies, 5000 meritorious sub-degree graduates will be able to articulate to subsidized degree programs each year, and around 9000 to self-financing top-up degree programs.

為讓副學位畢業生有更多升學機會，每年有5000名優秀副學位畢業生可升讀資助學位課程，約9000名自資銜接學位課程。

Sub-degree graduates are equipped with skills for employment at elementary management level or associate professional level. Sub-degree qualifications are also accepted as one of the entry requirements for appointment to 14 civil service grades. Please visit this page for further information.

The Government has also accepted that holders of local accredited Higher Diplomas and Associate Degrees will be regarded as having attained Level 3 in English Language and Level 2 in Chinese Language in the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE) for civil service appointments.
