A MESSAGE FROM

Principal Santos

The month of April is already flying by! We have so much to look forward to before the end of the year. One REALLY IMPORTANT task I need your help with is linked above 👆🏽 our intent to return form and enrollment/ registration. As we plan for next year and notify new families of seats available we appreciate your sense of urgency with this critical step in the year!

We are committed to continuing to improve our communication so if you have any feedback on how our communication impacts you or how we can improve, please email me directly at: oborrego@dallasisd.org

April is Autism Advocacy month and there is so much for us to learn as we continue to advocate for all students and continue to upgrade the inclusive school we want to see. I watched a really powerful TED talk earlier this month that reminded me how much more there is to do to as we continue to learn and advocate as educators and parents of a female community.

STAAR Reading testing begins this week for 5th-8th grade. The new assessment students will take this year incorporates BOTH Reading and Writing and can be pretty tedious. Students have all day to complete it.

We know that having students practice really long assessments multiple times throughout the year is not the answer - so we have worked with students to help them understand that this assessment is not just determining the reading and writing skills they have acquired but also their ability to practice both self-awareness and grit.

As they take any assessment, they have to tap into their thoughts, feelings and focus to determine when its best to take breaks, how to tell their brain to focus, tune out the actions of others around them and how to push them selves even when things get tough.

Each students goals are set with their teacher. Ask them what their goals are and as parents, you can remind them to give it their all and show up ready to push themselves to do their personal best!

Attendance is HUGE on our assessement days. To avoid a phone call home on the morning of the assessment, please let Ms. Kyle know ahead of time if your child will not be there on the day of the assessment at: Jackyle@dallasisd.org
