A Newsletter for Families of Solar Preparatory School for Girls
A message from Principal Santos...
Only one more week until school begins! We cannot wait to see our Trailblazers back in the building for Meet the Teacher this Thursday or one of the Middle School Parent meetings this week. A lot of important information is below and don't hesitate to reach out with any questions!
REGISTRATION: ENROLLMENT IS DUE!!
Returning Students in DISD: For those students who are returning to our school or district, please complete the registration process to confirm your child's enrollment for the upcoming year. This involves updating contact information, emergency contacts, and other pertinent details.
New to DISD: If your child is new to our school district, please ensure that you complete the enrollment process as soon as possible. This involves submitting proof of residency (water or electricity bill), your child's birth certificate, and shot records.
Online Portal Access: We encourage you to utilize choose.dallasisd.org online registration portal for your convenience. This portal will provide step-by-step instructions on how to complete the registration process.
UNIFORMS/ATTIRE: Please click on the link for daily uniform expectations. We will be having our House Sorting Day on Friday, August 15th for all of our NEW-TO-SOLAR students. If your child was at Solar last year, please ensure they wear their decked-out Solar house colors on Friday, August 16th to help cheer on our newest family members. Need spirit shirts, house shirts or uniforms - click on the links below OR see more info in the section below for our Solar Pantry.
TRANSPORTATION: Please click on the DISD transformation office transportation link for more information on the bus schedule.
SCHEDULES & HOMEROOM ASSIGNMENTS: Please be patient with student schedules and elementary homeroom assignment as our counselors and data controller have recently returned from summer break and will be making final adjustments to the master schedule until August 6th. Because of our heavy focus on creating balanced, diverse classrooms, homeroom requests are not able to be honored. Please reach out directly to me at oborrego@dallasisd.org if you have any questions.
BACKPACKS: It is now required for ALL students in PreK-8th grade to have clear backpacks. More information can be found in the flyer below.
IMMUNIZATIONS: Per TEXAS State Requirements - As per state regulations, all students must have up-to-date immunization records on file with the school. Students will not be allowed to attend if they do not have their immunization records up to date. (or an affidavit turned in for those who choose not to vaccinate.) These records are CRUCIAL for the health and safety of all students and staff. If you need assistance please reach out to Nurse Arteaga at mariamartinez8@dallasisd.org.
SCHOOL SUPPLIES: Please see the school supply list for your student's grade-level requirements. There is an option to buy school supplies pre-packaged from 1st Day. Click on the flyer below and place your orders by July 1st! All pre-paid school supplies will arrive by Meet The Teacher Night on August 7th. If you bought your own school supplies for your student, please feel free to bring them on Meet the Teacher night as well!
PIKMYKID: Be sure to sign up for PikMyKid, which is an app we utilize to ensure a safe and smooth dismissal. Follow the link here for all the information.
TECHNOLOGY AGREEMENT: For ALL students in PreK-8th grade, please fill out the technology agreement linked here.
MEET THE TEACHER NIGHTS
Elementary (PreK-5th): This year we will have PreK through 5th grades on campus on the same evening, Thursday 8/7. To help with limited parking and overcrowding, parents must sign-up to meet their teacher with a 20 minute time slot. We need your help with sticking to your time frame in order to have enough parking for everyone! If you have more than one child at Solar, you can sign-up for back to back time slots. Sign-up with the link here. We look forward to this highly anticipated event! Please reach out to Mrs. Bellcourt at rbellcourt@dallasisd.org if you have any questions or concerns.
Middle School (6th-8th): There will be a MANDATORY parent and student meeting where parents will learn more about middle school expectations and advanced course offerings, as well where students can meet their teacher. Please plan to join us at one of the following IN-PERSON options:
-Wednesday, August 6th 5:30pm
-Friday, August 8th at 8:30am
VIRTUAL OPTION:
If you are unable to attend either of the in-person options, we will also have a virtual option for parents only on Wednesday, August 6th at 1:00pm.
FIRST WEEK OF SCHOOL: The first day of school for all students is Tuesday, August 12th. Doors open at 7:30 AM, and school begins promptly at 8 AM. We encourage students to arrive early to ensure a smooth start to the day. During Meet the Teacher Night, we will need you to fill out a form to let us know how your child will be getting home the first day, first week and for the remainder of the school year.
As some of you might know, Ms. Davis has moved to be at a district closer to home, way up north in Princeton! We will miss her greatly and wish her all the best in this next endeavor!
We are excited to welcome Mrs. Tamaira McKinney to the our Solar Family as the new assistant principal!
