A message from
Principal Santos...
With six weeks behind us, you should have a pretty good idea of how your child is doing in school. Check in with your child's teacher to see when parent conferences will be held.
Our Hispanic Heritage celebration is this Sunday. Please see flyers below. We look forward to seeing you there!
We appreciate all of you who continue to reach out for support or to provide feedback. Your partnership is invaluable. If you are uncertain about anything or need support please do not hesitate to reach out. You can reach out to me directly at oborrego@dallasisd.org or reach out to my office manager iesquivel@dallasisd.org to get a hold of me or send a message. Your thoughts and questions are NEVER a bother. The more information we have about even the smallest details, the better I can provide support and the more aligned we will feel as a community. I appreciate all of you!

SAFETY DRILLS
🦺🚨Safety Drills at Solar Prep
We will be conducting several safety drill throughout the year. Your child may mention these at home, and it would be helpful if you could support your child explaining the purpose of these drills. Teachers discuss the safety routines, but we know alarms and new procedures can still feel overwhelming. Here’s some information about what our drills look like:
Fire Drills- Practiced monthly; students exit to designated outdoor locations and teachers report their student count to administrators.
Severe Weather Drills- Practiced once in the fall and once in the spring; students move to safe interior spaces, away from windows.
Lockdown Drills - Practiced once in the fall and once in the spring; students go to the safest place in their classroom and practice being quiet and still while teachers secure the space.
Hold Drills- Practiced once in the fall; building is closed to visitors entering the building and students clear the hallways and move to classrooms. Business as usual inside the classroom.
Secure Drills- Practiced once in the spring; building is closed to visitors entering the building and students can continue business as usual, including hallway transitions.
Here is a flyer that every classroom has posted about what students and teachers say and do during drills:
Here is more information for parents to understand the drills:

Volunteers Needed!
The Solar Peace Pantry is looking for volunteers with all different skills and schedules, but particularly, we are in need of volunteers who are available on Thursdays from 3:30 to 4:30 (without kids with them) to staff the pantry during our busiest shift!
It's a tricky time slot for many parents so if you're one of the rare people available and childless then, please send us an email! -- solarpantry@gmail.com
