The book, I Am Malala, follows the story of a Pakistani girl named Malala Yousafzai. Malala was born in Swat Pakistan, a country that had been taken over by a radical group called the Taliban. Malala’s birth was different from that of many other women in Swat, as her father treated her just as equally as a man would be treated, as women are often seen less superior to men in middle eastern countries . Ziauddin, Malala’s father, also differed in the way he treated his daughter, as he wanted Malala to receive an education. This led to extreme upset in the Swat, as Taliban radicals thought women should not attend to school. Chaos erupted, as one day while Malala was on her way to school, she is shot in the head by a Taliban officer. This book follows the inspirational story of Malala Yousafzai, a girl who stood up to the Taliban, and became one of the most influential women’s rights activist of today.
