Summary

Percy has always been a bit different from the rest. For one thing, he suffers ADHD. Because of this, he's placed in a class with the below grade level kids. While on a trip to a museum with his class, one of Percy's teachers tries to kill him for reasons unknown to Percy. He's saved when another teacher throws him a pen that's able to turn into a sword. Percy later learns that he is a half-blood, or demigod. This means that he's a child of both a god and a mortal. He also learns that there's a special place that he must go in order to not die. On the way there, his mother is grabbed by a Minotaur and taken to the underworld. Once inside the place where he is safe, which is Camp Half-Blood, Percy makes new friends... and enemies. Percy learns that the god Zeus has lost his main weapon, and Percy's been framed. What follows is Percy's adventure through the Underworld to get his mom, to an unknown place to get Zeus's weapon, and through the world with so many monsters, and some gods, trying to kill him.

Review

I loooooooooooooved this book. After reading through the series over three times, I'm still finding intricate details that foreshadow future events, remind the reader of past events, or give details into a character and his or her actions. I loved learning about all of the Greek gods, monsters, and all of the in between that Percy has to deal with. After finishing The Lightning Thief, I wanted more. Luckily for me, there are four more books in the series and then a second series with five books, new characters, and a new plot. Now, he has yet another series involving Percy and the gang that's currently still in the works. All in all, I love this book. I give it a five out of five rating. This book is just perfect in my opinion. Not one complaint from me.
