This book is about a young boy named Yanek Gruener who is a Jewish boy living in Poland in the 1930s. The Nazis invaded Poland and took everything that he had and loved. Yanek is taken prisoner and his arm is tattooed with B-3087. Yanek has been moved from concentration camp to concentration camp while World War II is happening around him. Yanek sees some evil that just shows how some countries acted during this time but also finds some hope out of all his time in the camps.
