This autobiography starts off in Bruce's childhood, as most do. Bruce talks about his family and his childhood in the early chapters. The stories of his first guitar, musical talent and first gigs form the next chapters. Springsteen’s high school years were spent forming bands such as The Castiles that negotiated a tricky path between competing teenage cliques and sharkskin sporting “grease” and the college-bound “rahs”. Steel Mill, a heavy rock band formed by an 18 year old Springsteen was made once his parents had departed for a new life in California. Left to fend for himself, Springsteen became a living in the concrete storeroom of a surfboard factory and now he knew the real world. Next, Bruce describes his trip to the west coast to tour and see his parents after they moved away. Most of the story is based around Bruce’s struggle to have a band that was to his liking, so that he could write songs for them to perform and that could record songs in studios to get him into the big leagues as a songwriter. Together in the end Bruce formed the “Bruce Springsteen” band and then that was the roots for the E street band one of the most successful bands in the world. This book is great if you're into music and I would say it is the best autobiography I have ever read. To get the best possible experience for this book I would recommend to get the audio book read by Springsteen himself. I would give this book 5 stars because in my mind it is the perfect book. The plot was interesting and the book was filled with facts.
