Printing on Chromebooks

This page describes how to set up your personally-owned Chromebook computer for printing in a classroom or lab.

You’ll need to have the printer’s IP address, location, manufacturer and model from our list.

  1. Click your account photo.

  2. Click Settings .

  3. At the bottom, click Advanced.

  4. In the "Printing" section, click Printers.

  5. Click Add Printer.

  6. Optional: To quickly add a nearby printer, click Add Nearby Printers. If you see a list of printers but don’t see your printer, click Add Manually.

  7. Enter your printer information:

    • Name: Enter a name that will help you remember where this printer is located.

    • Address: Enter your printer’s IP address exactly as listed.

    • Protocol: Choose the connection protocol IPP.

    • Queue: Choose the queue ipp/print.

  8. Click Add.

  9. In the box that appears, choose the listed printer manufacturer and model.

    • If you don’t see your printer in the list, check your printer info for its "printer language" or "emulation." Then choose the "Generic" option that looks similar.

    • If you have your printer driver, click Browse to upload it. The file must be 250 KB or smaller.

  10. Click Add.
