Faculty and Staff Printing

Network printer names

Network printers for faculty and staff are accessed by their network connection name, which is typically given in one of these two formats:

  • \\print\bldgroom-makemodel

  • \\print\ricoh_bldgroom

Examples: \\print\lhy301-hp5550, \\print\ricoh_lhy342.

(The connection name is not case-sensitive.)

Add a network printer

Before you print to a network printer:

  • Determine the name of the printer you should use. Ask your department's office for this information. (Departments pay for their network printer and its consumables (paper and, in some cases, toner), so please be courteous by printing only to the appropriate printer.)

  • Add the printer as a device on your computer. (You only need to add it once.)

When you know the name of the network printer to use, follow these steps in Windows 10 to add it to your computer:

  1. Click the Start menu button on the left end of the task bar.

  2. With the Start menu open, just start typing \\print\ and the rest of the printer name.

  3. When you see the printer in the list, click to add it.

Windows Start menu open to the search bar, with text "\\PRINT\LEAHY-LL" displayed in the search text box.

Once the printer has been added to your computer, you are all set to print to it! The printer will display as an option when you use File, Print (or press Ctrl-P) in an application.

Remove a network printer you no longer use

If you change departments or office location, please be sure to remove any network printers you no longer use. Follow these steps:

  1. Click the Start menu button on the left end of the task bar, and then select Settings (the gear icon).

  2. In Settings, navigate to Devices > Printers & scanners.

  3. Find the printer you want to remove in the list of devices, click to highlight it and then click "Remove device".
