Encrypted Computers

Follow these instructions to update your Cardinal account password when using an encrypted University desktop or laptop.

Updating your Cardinal password

For University Laptops or Desktops on the Campus Network

  1. First update your record in Cardinal Station to have an alternate, non-@cua.edu email address. This allows you to receive password reset notifications concerning your Cardinal account.

  2. Use the Password Change service to change your Cardinal account password: computing.cua.edu/password.

  3. Once you've done that, you will have your pre-change password (old) and your current (new) password.

  4. Reboot your encrypted machine.

  5. Use your old password to login to the encryption screen.

  6. Enter your username and your new password at the Windows login screen.

  7. Your encryption password will now be synced to your new password and you will now use this new password for both encryption and all other CUA network applications.

For University Laptops or Desktops not on the Campus Network

  4. Until you come to campus and connect your machine to our network (wired) your password both for encryption and to your desktop/laptop will remain as your old password.

  5. Note: Your connection to email and other campus resources that require the Network password will be updated to your new password.

  6. Once you are connected via wired network to the campus network, follow the instructions in the section above (for laptops/desktops connected to the network)
