AI for Elementary
Joe Phillips
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is the most influential advancement of the 21st century. It has the potential to drastically alter the way we create information and interact with one another. In this ASA, students will explore child friendly AI tools and games such as Quick Draw, Sing Now, and Poem Postcards.
A note on safety: The AI tools used in this ASA are specifically chosen to be age appropriate and to serve a specific purpose. AI tools with a broad scope and higher risk for abuse (such as ChatGPT) will not be used as part of this ASA.
Athena in Action for girls
Katie Sutherland & Madeline Lee
Athena in Action is inspired by the passion & commitment of Madeline Lee, a senior and student leader here at CISH, who believes in the importance of helping girls develop a positive self-image and healthy lifestyle. We hope that this ASA empowers girls to not only embrace and celebrate their unique qualities, but also recognize and appreciate the special qualities of the people around them. We will engage in various activities that develop self-confidence & positivity, as well as empathy and compassion. Each week we will weave physical activity into our session to inspire an appreciation of fitness and build habits that lead to a lifetime of health both physically and emotionally. Madeline, who will be co-leading this ASA, is a wonderful role model for our elementary students as she exemplifies the characteristics of Athena in Action.

Something magical happens when groups of people read out loud together or when we listen to someone read aloud. It can create a shared experience, highlights the stories that can shape our values, and place literature at the center of our lives, even if just for an hour. Reading aloud builds vocabulary, improves comprehension and active listening. It also strengthens fluency and can improve working memory.
