Dear Parents,
As we approach the end of another incredible academic year, it is a perfect time to reflect on the remarkable journey we’ve shared. This term, like those before it, has been filled with achievements, personal growth, and the vibrant sense of community that is the heart of our school.
Dear Parents,
This week, as I sat watching our Junior Christmas Nativity Play, I was struck once again by the beauty of life’s journey. Those precious little children, so full of innocence and joy, enchanted us all with their heartfelt performance. Their sweetness on stage filled the room with a sense of fulfillment, reminding us of the fleeting nature of childhood.
A Story of Hope from the Headmaster
Dear Clifton Family,
This week, I wish to share a story of remarkable courage and hope, embodied by one of our own: Oliver Gibbs, a spirited Grade 5 learner whose journey inspires and humbles everyone he meets.
Dear Clifton Parents,
Welcome back! As we embark on the final four weeks of the term, I want to extend a warm welcome to all our Clifton families. This period is always a time of both excitement and focused effort, and I am confident that together we will navigate these last weeks with success and enthusiasm.
Dear Clifton Family,
As we enter the final stretch of the year, I’m sure you’ll agree that our campus is looking especially beautiful. The air is alive with the changing season, welcoming back the swallows—and yes, even a few of our less welcome visitors, the snakes, have made an appearance. Please remind your children to be cautious as we share this lovely space with all of nature’s creatures.
Dear Parents,
I hope this newsletter finds you well.
This week, we had the incredible privilege of welcoming Luke Lamprecht, a renowned psychologist and leading expert on child safety in South Africa, to Clifton. Luke spent time engaging with our children, management team, staff, and parents. He has been instrumental in developing our school's safeguarding programme, which began over a year ago.
Dear Parents,
As we transition into a new season, isn’t it wonderful to witness the dramatic changes in nature around us? After the recent winter storms that caused so much damage, seeing the world come back to life brings a renewed sense of hope and excitement. I hope you share this feeling as we step into the new term, with all the opportunities it holds for our children.
Dear Clifton Community,
Welcome back to the start of the final term! I hope the holidays were a time of rest and renewal, and that everyone is ready for the exciting, yet busy, weeks ahead.
A special welcome to our Grade 7 boys and girls, who now begin the last stretch of their journey at Clifton. During chapel this week, each Grade 7 lit a candle, a powerful symbol of their incredible ability to influence those around them, bringing light wherever they go. May this final term be an opportunity for them to shine brightly, using their influence one last time at Clifton.
Four Square. It’s a bit like a version of hand tennis, but played between 4 children at any one time. And it’s played with any ball near at hand. Two things stand out in a game of Four Square. Firstly, you are guaranteed to hear laughter from the children playing, and secondly, there is a definite rhythm to the bounce of the ball as it is palmed between squares … it’s a bit like the steady heartbeat of a long-distance athlete, one imagines. Four Square really is worth a watch – see you near the chess-board?
It began with a bell. Tristan Aubert (Class of 2001), together with his wife, Nanette, recently paid us a visit. Walking around campus and reminiscing with Tristan was so very refreshing… a wonderful reminder of what was, and what still is at Clifton. It was also important to view the growth of our facilities through new eyes, and those of a very impressed past pupil.
Katie Polkinghorne (Clifton 2008) is fondly remembered as a noteworthy pupil who made the most of every opportunity made available to her, and in every facet of school life. Always positive, she was a gregarious young lady, and an exceptional sportswoman… she even played cricket for the school. Katie went on to complete her schooling at St Anne’s in 2013. The embodiment of the spirit of uBuntu, and still with the same effervescence and positivity, she is taking part in the 50km Ultra Trail Scramble in Arizona, USA, to raise funds for the #MilesforMandisa Fund. This provides bursaries for South African girls to attend St Anne’s DSG. What an example to us all.
