Boeresportdag - 30 October
2024 marked yet another successful Boeresport function – thanks to the tireless efforts of every single staff member and intern with their willing leadership of all the activities. The weather was just perfect and we celebrated this highly anticipated event on 30 October – a day to remember.
Our teetannies were extra specially smart this year, decked out in their new aprons, kindly designed and organised by Antoinette O’Connell. (Another example of how all the staff members go the extra mile!)
My predecessor, mev Liesel Ferreira, introduced Boeresport to Clifton in a small way the year before I arrived, but it was the 21st Boeresportdag which I have had the pleasure and privilege to organise. It has been a highlight every year for all these years. Mitchell Steenkamp and Douglas Neary ensured the smooth running of the events by ringing the bell every ten minutes in between the rollicking Boeremusiek which set the atmosphere of the day from the very first minute.
There was much excitement as the children participated in driebeenresies, eier-en-lepelresies, jukskei, pillow fights, kleilatgooi and bobbejaanresies. Kettieskiet and toutrek are often favourites, but there were even more stations in store, all so ably set up beforehand by the outstanding Elvis and his team. Throwing the aardvark became quite dangerous this year and we had to extend the area as there was so much enthusiastic and strenuous throwing, many of us had to dodge the missiles whistling down from a dizzy height. Amazingly, the aardvark survived!
The delicious treats are always highly appreciated and Sunni and her kitchen crew spoilt us rotten with the vetkoek, koeksisters and melktert.
At the end of the festivities, our headmaster, mnr Eswee Prinsloo, regaled us with two fun Afrikaanse liedjies accompanied by his guitar.
The Boeresport 2024 winners narrowly beat the Barbars, and the Trojans captains proudly accepted the Ossewatrofee to remember this occasion for ever.
