Trip to BergVenture - 23-25 October
On 23 October, our Grade 3 children, along with our dedicated interns and teachers, set off on the much-anticipated annual school camp to BergVenture in the heart of the Central Drakensberg Mountains. From the start, the bus buzzed with excitement as we left campus, and upon arrival, we were greeted by breath-taking views of the rugged Drakensberg peaks—a true masterpiece of nature!
After unpacking and settling in, we embarked on a hike through the forest. The trail was filled with curious discoveries, and the journey led us to a waterfall, where cool, refreshing waters provided a welcome break from the warmth of the sun.
The afternoon continued with team-based activities, including an obstacle course that challenged each student to push personal boundaries. Collaboration and critical thinking became essential as each team worked through the course, cheering one another on and making quick, strategic decisions. By evening, the thrill of the day had everyone ready for a good night’s rest.
On Day Two, recharged and ready, we headed to the famous Falcon Ridge. Here, the highlight of our trip awaited us: a bird show featuring some of South Africa’s most incredible raptors. We watched in awe as a Peregrine Falcon demonstrated its astonishing speed and precision, catching prey mid-flight, while vultures circled gracefully above and the iconic call of the fish eagle echoed through the air.
The afternoon’s excitement didn’t stop there. Zip lining and tree climbing took us to new heights—literally! Both children and teachers challenged their comfort zones, feeling the adrenaline as they soared through the trees and climbed to new heights. With hearts racing and spirits high, we wound down for an early bedtime.
Our final day began with a hearty breakfast, fueling us for a last adventure: horse riding in the mountain foothills and abseiling down a 10-metre cliff. While some rode, others relaxed and soaked in the stunning views, reflecting on the beauty around us.
As we departed, students looked back on the highlights of this memorable journey—their last trip as Junior Primary boys and girls. We left BergVenture with full hearts, strengthened friendships, and a trove of cherished memories, grateful for the laughter, challenges, and beauty that filled each day of this unforgettable camp.
