Dear Clifton Community,

Welcome back to the start of the final term! I hope the holidays were a time of rest and renewal, and that everyone is ready for the exciting, yet busy, weeks ahead.

A special welcome to our Grade 7 boys and girls, who now begin the last stretch of their journey at Clifton. During chapel this week, each Grade 7 lit a candle, a powerful symbol of their incredible ability to influence those around them, bringing light wherever they go. May this final term be an opportunity for them to shine brightly, using their influence one last time at Clifton.

This term will be a time of reflection and farewells, which can bring mixed emotions. As we look back on cherished memories, we also prepare to say goodbye to these young leaders. It’s a time of growth, celebration, and, yes, some tears, but it’s also a season to be proud of all that has been achieved.

I wish everyone well as we head into a very busy part of the year. Let’s support each other and make the most of this special time together.

Staff News

Mrs. Louise Rautenbach will take over Grade 6 Maths following Lisa Abbott’s departure. With over 10 years of experience and expertise in the NumberSense program, she holds a specialised qualification in Maths and Dyscalculia, enabling her to support children with math learning difficulties. Her approach focuses on building a strong conceptual understanding and fostering a love for Maths. We are confident she will help our Grade 6 learners thrive.

Mrs. Phillipa Lowe will be joining as the Grade 5 locum for the first two terms, filling in for Tayla Smuts. Mrs. Lowe, a retired teacher with extensive experience, previously taught at Cordwalles Preparatory School. She brings a deep understanding of both English and Maths, and her passion for teaching, especially for children with learning difficulties, ensures that each child will be supported in achieving their best.

We look forward to welcoming both Mrs. Rautenbach and Mrs. Lowe to our team.

In Our Community:

This week, we received the heartbreaking news of the passing of Mr. H. Derek Spencer, a cherished member of our Clifton community. He had recently celebrated his 90th birthday. Mr. Spencer, husband to Margaret, father of Hazel, Simon and Roger, and grandfather of Cliftonians Benjamin, Luke and Emily, played an instrumental role as the chairman of the Clifton board between 1992-1994, with a firm hand on the rudder, leaving a lasting legacy at our school. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Spencer family during this difficult time.
