Grade 6 & 7 Snake Talk by Pat McKrill - 21 November
What a privilege it was to to host Mr Pat McKrill recently. An expert herpetologist (snake guru), he spent a very valuable 3 hours with our Grade 6 & 7s. With the help of his ‘friends’ (two Puff Adders, an enormous Vietnamese Rat Snake and a rehabilitated Brown House Snake (which was later released on campus).
Mr McKrill’s humorous, fact-filled presentation will be remembered for quite some time! A highlight of the talk was spending some time at the stream chatting about ecosystems and the vital place snakes serve in our environment. Mr McKrill then released the Brown House Snake, which slithered off happily in search of the healthy supply of frogs that love our ‘leaky dams’.
We are also most grateful to Mr McKrill for his input into improving our snake pit, a project that will be picked up on by the children in the New Year.
