Clifton was established in 1942 and has consistently offered experience and expertise in termly, weekly and periodic boarding.
Our beautiful rural setting in the stunning KZN Midlands offers children opportunities that cannot be replicated in urban schools. The freedom and safety our day scholar and boarder children enjoy on our 60ha estate and the surrounding farmlands has to be experienced to be understood.
Clifton is more than a school; it’s a connected community of families with common goals and values. We’re so confident that your little Champ will thrive and be very happy here and we’re excited to team up with you in this great adventure of learning.
Clifton and ‘big school’ is a new and exciting experience for families. We would like to welcome you and your children to the Clifton Notties family.
In Grade 1, children make remarkable physical, academic, and social growth. They will most likely have outgrown their clothing by half-year and become independent little readers and writers, too. School routines become more formal, with designated times for work and play. The content of topics is deeper and broader, and the children are encouraged to question, challenge and be flexible in their application of knowledge to problems posed.
Below you will find curriculum maps outlining the skills and content learned throughout the year for the various core subjects in each grade.
Please note that, while this is our plan for the year, the following tables are by no means prescriptive. Each teacher reserves the right to make changes to the plan where necessary, and as the individual needs and interests of the children in their care become apparent. We may not always get to everything and we may introduce other skills and topics as we go. We strive to keep our content relevant, manageable and enjoyable, which necessitates adaptability within the frameworks we have created.
Welcome to the Clifton Notties boarding family. We trust that your child’s time with us will be happy, memorable, and fun-filled. The information contained herein will assist you and your child during his or her stay with us.
The boarding experience will help your child grow more independent and confident as they will be responsible for their possessions and space. Boarders form long-lasting and happy relationships with their peers as they spend time together playing and experiencing the beautiful environment that they are so fortunate to be part of.
Please Note
Clothing and Sports Equipment
Parents, please ensure that your child arrives at school with their full school uniform, the correct sports equipment, stationery, and all other essentials at the start of each term. All items are to be labelled correctly with your child's full name (boarders to include the laundry number as well).
Proper behaviour is essential for the development of responsible and self-disciplined children and for the operation of an effective school. Proper behaviour, although it may be governed by many specific laws, policies, regulations and rules, must always be based on three principles...
How young children interact with their peers can have important implications for the way they will behave in later years. While most young children live peaceably and happily with others, some act aggressively or become targets of the bullying behaviour of their peers. These children are often unhappy and they are likely to continue feeling that way unless effective means of prevention or intervention is applied.
