Grade 6 - Trip to Babanango: 15 - 19 September

Our Grade 6s set off on Monday morning for their much-anticipated adventure to Babanango, with history as our starting point. Following the success of our Spionkop outing earlier this term, we deepened our understanding by visiting the legendary battlefields of Isandlwana and Rorke’s Drift. Standing on those rolling hills, with stories of bravery and strategy etched into the landscape, the children were captivated by the history of the Zulu nation and their encounters with the British.

From there, it was on to camp – a chance to swap the history books for outdoor education. Our children tackled obstacle courses, solved leadership challenges, tested their knowledge in team quizzes, studied plants, learnt camp craft, played stalk the lantern under the stars, and showcased their creativity in a spirited (and highly entertaining) camp concert. As always, Clifton children threw themselves in wholeheartedly, and their energy and enthusiasm were commended by the camp facilitators.

Of course, the highlights weren’t all on the schedule. A hair-braiding station sprang up in the corner of camp, a creative game of ‘soccer-squash’ went on for hours, and new friendships flourished – including a cheerful exchange with another school across the river. By the final day, there was a real sense of cohesion among the children, as the two classes had merged into a cohesive team.

This trip was more than just a few days away – it was an experience rooted in learning, connection, laughter, and building resilience. These camps are always so valuable, and the children returned with stronger friendships, broader perspectives, and a wonderful collection of memories.
