isiZulu Day - 19 September
A Vibrant Celebration of isiZulu and Culture
What a lively isiZulu and cultural day it was, filled with fun, laughter, and learning! The Grade 3 chidlren arrived at school dressed in stunning multicultural attire, beautifully complemented by traditional accessories such as isiZulu necklaces.
The day began with an engaging cultural PowerPoint presentation, where the children learnt about the different traditional dress styles of South African cultures. This was followed by a moving inkondlo (poem) about Shaka Zulu, recited by Phephe from the Estates staff.
The programme continued with a variety of performances. Grade 3 groups showcased energetic traditional dances, joined by the Grade 5 girls and a group from the Estates staff. Mr. Chapatha delighted everyone with his soulful guitar playing and songs in Shona, so captivating that even the Grade 3 boys and girls joined in, singing along joyfully.
Adding to the excitement, a group of Grade 3 boys and girls performed a short isiZulu play. Their fluency and confidence impressed everyone, leaving the audience in awe of their talent.
To close the day, the kitchen staff prepared a mouth-watering traditional meal. The feast included ujeqe, phuthu, istambu, inyama yangaphakathi (tripe), chicken stew, and more. The children enjoyed every bite, returning for seconds and even thirds!
Special thanks go to the IT team for ensuring smooth transitions with music and presentations, the kitchen staff for the delicious meal, the Estates team for setting up the venue, and everyone who contributed in one way or another to make this day a true success.
A heartfelt thank you to all, it was indeed a celebration to remember!
