Senior Primary SEL Workshops: 22 + 23 September
Social emotional learning is a critical aspect of Clifton’s offering. We are proud to be able to offer weekly lessons in this regard, all aimed at ‘future proofing’ our children, and to be able to equip them with the necessary skills to survive and thrive.
This term concluded with two SEL Workshops: one for Grade 6, and the other a combined Grade 4 and 5 workshop.
Before too long, our Grade 6s will be the leaders of the school. Our workshop focus was on beginning to equip the children with the skills necessary for servant leadership, and outlining scenarios and describing challenges that they will doubtless face in their senior year. The ‘what’ and the ‘how’. There is no question that they are an able cohort, and, with Clifton’s ethos at the heart of everything they will face, we are looking forward to 2026!
The Grade 4 and 5 workshop continued the Heritage Day assembly theme of ‘fruit salad’. They were reminded that none of us are as good as all of us, and to respect one another… and our differences. We included communication skills, the strength of ‘no’, as well as how to take our power back in difficult situations.
Working in small groups, realistic scenarios were unpacked and discussed, with focuses on how to approach these, responsibilities and making sure that voices were not silenced.
Clifton children are known for their empathy, integrity and understanding. Long may this legacy continue.
