Class of 2020 Reunion: 12 September

From barefoot dreams and muddy clothes,
We raise our caps, as chapters close.
With hearts full of pride and eyes set anew,
We salute the past and adventures that await you’’

Last Friday, Old Cliftonians reunited for a heartfelt five-year reunion, filled with nostalgia and joy. Known as the Covid Class of 2020, and with many now holding senior leadership positions at their schools, it seems the distance created by that challenging year only strengthened their bond, with 46 of the 50 pupils attending the reunion dinner.

Upon arrival, everyone seemed to disappear into the evening mist, each drawn to their favourite spots across the campus, classrooms, dormitories and the EAC (new to them!) A special highlight was the visit to Mev Borgen’s classroom, which has remained unchanged over the years, still proudly displaying the iconic “Knopies” on the walls.

Many shared warm hugs with the catering ladies still working in the kitchen, preparing their dinner just as they always had. Laughter and stories filled the old dining hall, sharing memories and catching up on life since leaving Clifton.

The much-anticipated moment arrived when Mr Quinn opened the time capsule box. Inside were face shields, Covid masks, lost property, conkers, acorns, and pieces of bark, alongside letters they had written to their future selves. These sparked some playful banter but also quieter moments of meaningful reflection.

The reunion was a beautiful celebration of the years gone by, the enduring spirit of Clifton Notties, and lasting friendships that time cannot fade.
