Grade 5 - Trip to Kamberg Rock Art Centre: 12 September

On 12 September, our Grade 5 boys and girls took their studies of the San, Khoikhoi, and South African heritage to new heights with an unforgettable field trip to the Kamberg.

The day began with a misty hike up from the Rock Art Centre, where the children experienced the breathtaking landscape once home to these ancient communities. Along the way, our guide shared fascinating insights into the local plants and how they were used for food, water, and medicine.

The sound of rushing water soon led the group to a series of spectacular waterfalls. Near the largest, a cave revealed faded but awe-inspiring Bushman paintings. Later, at the main cave, the boys and girls encountered beautifully preserved rock art that vividly brought history to life.

The trip ended with a reflective walk back down the mountain. It was a day filled with adventure, learning, and discovery — one that truly connected the classroom to the rich cultural heritage of South Africa.
