Hi CAV Families,
What a great week back! I hope everyone is getting back into the swing of things. We had some rainy days and are hoping for less this week. This way we can get everyone outside to play and run around. On rainy days, we do our best to have free play and games. We utilize our assembly room with the larger groups to give them more room to move around.
I am so proud and excited to announce that Classical Academy Vista was selected out of 5,800 elementary schools to be one of the 356 schools recognized as a California Distinguished School. This is a great achievement and shows the dedication our families and team have for education. Congratulations to all for this amazing award!
Today is the field trip to Discovery Cube. I hope all that are attending enjoy the science. We try to vary the field trips and connect them to learning. If you have any ideas, please email Caitlyn Avila at cavila@classicalacademy.com. Sometimes we need more places to go!
Enrolling for next year is underway. If you are planning to return next year, you have to enroll. This is not automatic, and we have enrollment every year. Any questions about enrollment can go to Amanda Burton at aburton@classicalacademy.com.
You are our best source for finding new families to join our school. Please spread the word as we have many openings to fill. You can send them to our Open House on February 2nd from 5:30-7:00 or they can call the office for information to attend our Wednesday Orientations.

ATTENTION ALL K-3 STUDENTS!!!!
CAV Musical Theatre is bringing back the Lil' Sharks program. This is an exciting opportunity to perform on the historic stage at Vista's AVO Playhouse for the upcoming performances of Frozen!!
Our K-3 Lil' Sharks will sing & dance in a 2-song, pre-show performance during all 4 shows of Frozen!!
***There is a $45 production fee to cover the cost of a t-shirt,+ educational experience. Payments should be made in the CAV front office on or before 1/18/2023. Limited openings... 20 spots available only. If you'd like to add a loveline for your performer to be printed into our playbill it will be an additional $5.
You will want to fill out the registration form (link is below) and pay at the front office to secure your spot.

Do you want to get involved with Musical Theatre at CAV? If so, please complete the registration form at your earliest convenience.
After you have been assigned a position, you will be expected to come to all of the remaining rehearsals.
This will be weekly, from 3:45pm-5:45pm, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, in the music room, from mid-February until 3/19/2023, which is the final day of the show. (You might not need to come to EVERY rehearsal, but please plan to be available and flexible for scheduling changes.)
***There is a $20 fee, to cover the cost of your Tech/Crew t-shirt. Payments should be made at the CAV front office before 1/18/2023.

The Showcase is run much like a Science Fair; community members, students, teachers, parents, and everyone is invited to attend. The event takes place on the Personalized Learning Campus at 5:00 p.m. We will see you there!

Pathfinder Ranch Science Camp

Our 5th grade class trip is a 3-day, 2-night academic/adventure camp. Pathfinder ranch blends a fun camp experience with educational classes. This trip is an optional educational experience for all 5th grade students attending the Classical Academies schools. Pathfinder Ranch is located in the city of Idyllwild, California. This adventure camp provides high-quality academic programming while participating in exciting and unique recreational classes. The Science and Outdoor Education program strongly correlates the curriculum to California's Content Standards. The college educated professional teaching staff has been providing 5th and 6th graders with exceptional science camp experiences for over 30 years.

Volunteer Hours
Remember to record your volunteer hours! Any donation made to our school, whether it be monetary or classroom items, counts as volunteer time. Every $10 equals 1 hour.
If you attend Jumpstart or any other parent training - that time counts as well so be sure to enter it!

Box Tops for Education
There are now three ways you can submit Box Tops!
There are still products out there with traditional Box Tops that you clip and send. We will still accept those! Bring any clipped Box Tops to our front office.
Eventually all Box Tops will change to the new label - you can download the Box Tops app and scan your receipts - every box top is still worth 10 cents for our school!
*Or* Bring in your receipts and we will scan them for you!
As we enter into the cold, allergy, flu and holiday season please keep in mind that certain viruses can spread very quickly. Your cooperation in keeping our community healthy is greatly appreciated. Please remind your students to wash their hands often and to not share food and drinks. It is always good to wash hands or use hand sanitizer before eating.
Here are some important reminders regarding our Sick Child policy:
Students who appear ill (ie. fever, stomach aches, diarrhea, stomach pains, vomiting) should not be sent to school.
If your student is sick, please call the front office - 760-330-9800.
Cold, allergy, flu and COVID symptoms all look alike. It is important to not self-diagnose these symptoms.
If your student experiences any of the following symptoms: fever, stuffy or runny nose, sore throat, cough, body aches, more tired than normal, we recommend taking a COVID test when symptoms begin and before returning to school. Free test kits are available at the front office.
A student must be fever-free without the use of fever-reducing medicine (i.e. acetaminophen, ibuprofen, aspirin, naproxen) for 24 hours before returning to school.

Sometimes life is challenging and we experience distress. This Virtual Calm Room was created to serve as a break and to help you find new ways to identify & manage strong emotions and build your resilience. These resources will hopefully allow you to reset back to a calm state of mind and body.
We encourage you to make it a priority to care for yourself in healthy ways. Not all coping strategies will feel right so we encourage you to explore some and find what works for YOU!

Genuine Volleyball is offering Jr Clinics for boys and girls ages 7-14.
Fridays, 4-5:30pm
Geared toward beginners, these clinics will teach the mechanics of volleyball in a group setting.

Free Transit Passes for Students - Unlimited Rides on Bus, Trolley, COASTER & SPRINTER
SANDAG's Youth Opportunity Transit Pass allows anyone 18 and under to ride San Diego transit (bus, trolley, Coaster, and Sprinter) for free for the next 14 months starting on May 1, 2022 through June 30, 2023. There are several ways children and families can take advantage of this opportunity, such as using their existing online bus pass or getting a hard copy card through SANDAG.
In order to take advantage of the free pass, riders must have a Youth PRONTO app account or card. For riders who already have a pass, the rides will automatically be free starting May 1, 2022. Riders who do not have a Youth PRONTO pass may either download one on a smartphone or pick up a free card from the MTS Transit Store, NCTD Customer Service Centers or select community organizations. We are pleased to offer every student one free meal kit each day they are on campus. Meals must be pre-ordered through the front office and are available for pick up at various times throughout the day to allow for flexible schedules.
The Classical Academies participates in a school meal program by offering a complimentary, nutritious breakfast every school day. Our breakfast program is available to all students, regardless of eligibility status, who are on campus longer than two hours for an educational purpose. Pre-packaged Breakfast Kits can be requested for your student by filling out a simple form (ask your school’s front office for the sign up form). When students arrive on campus, they will be able to choose from the available pre-packaged Breakfast Kits. Each pre-packaged Breakfast Kit includes breakfast cereal, dried fruit, unsweetened regular or flavored applesauce, graham crackers, and low-fat milk.
Additionally, please refer to the 2022 Summer Meal Sites for Students for a list of alternate food service sites available across San Diego County.

PARENT VOLUNTEER PROGRAM
The Parent Volunteer Program was established to connect parents’ skills, passion, and abilities to their school community. Parent volunteers are the backbone of The Classical Academy program, and our parents’ leadership and talents are truly what make our school successful! You can find the link to log your volunteer hours in the weekly school updates (look for the ‘volunteer’ icon at the top of the newsletter). Please enter all the information correctly so that your hours are applied to the correct category/event.
As the year progresses, the Parent Volunteer Coordinator may email you with links to sign up for events that may need help as well as any needed donations. Parents are always welcome to volunteer where they would like and do not need to wait to be invited to help. Our parents are always welcome on campus and in the classroom!

Please complete this form if you will have someone else picking up your child(ren) from school.
If you have recently moved or have made changes to your current contact information, please fill out this form and turn in to the front office.
This form is required to keep medication on campus for your child and must be signed by their physician. All medications must be kept in the front office - or a Self-Carry form must be completed as well and also be signed by your child's doctor.
This form is to be completed a parent/guardian for any student who will be walking/biking home after school.

If you are late, you will need to check in at the office.
Pick up for K-2 is 3:00pm and 3-8 is 3:30pm
·K-2 pickup will be ONE LANE ONLY (right lane)
·3-8 pickup will separate into two lanes by First letter of last name (younger siblings will be escorted to the pick-up area)
CAV Families will be entering into the left lane from University Dr. The school next door will use the right lane. DL (Dual Language) will turn at the first right turn, while CAV will continue to the second right turn and will snake through the parking lot.
There will be ONE LANE (right lane) for K-2 pick-up at 3pm.
We will create TWO lanes of traffic (one for A-K on the left and one for L-Z on the right for 3rd-8th pick-up at 3:30pm).
We will be guiding you through the process and directing traffic to create a safe drop off and pick up area. Here is a flyer on how we direct track through the parking lot.

VISITOR AND VOLUNTEER GUIDELINES
ALL visitors/parents/guardians who will be coming on campus MUST sign in at the front desk and obtain a Visitors Badge.
Please have your ID ready the first time you check in. After this 1st check-in, we will not require your ID. You may provide your name at the front desk and we will print you a visitor's badge.
If you will be volunteering in a classroom or plan on volunteering in the future, please email Caitlyn Avila and she will send you the Volunteer Letter/Survey that is required to be completed in order to volunteer on our campus. cavila@classicalacademy.com
