Principal's Message
Hi CAV Families,
I hope you all had a wonderful conference last week and have found your way into Unit 2. It feels so good to be able to check a unit off and start into a new one.
We don't have a lot of updates this week. We are starting with our small groups on campus. We look forward to seeing where they take us. We will be planning for more as we see what is working and how to best support our families.
I look forward to a great week with kids on campus and conferences under our belt. Please reach out to your teachers on small groups and what you would like to see on campus or in distance learning. We will continue to evaluate everything we are doing to support you all.

Elective Offerings
Musical Theatre 3-8 : Zoom time offered
Explore all facets of musical theatre! How to create a strong repertoire for any audition, music and musical theatre appreciation, behind the scenes techniques, movement and more! I look forward to encouraging your passion for music and the arts! I will also be holding open office hours on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 1-2pm for any independent musically inclined sharing.

A Journey In Art- 3-8:
Welcome to Art Class with Miss Kris! I'm so excited to take you on a journey in art this year. This is my 6th year teaching art with the Classical Academies, before that I was working in interior design and spent many years as a commercial artist. Art is such an exciting subject to learn, and it builds critical thinking skills, as well as creativity. This course will teach you many different ways of creating art. The class will look at many artists including Ansel Adams, Wyland, Georgia O'keeffe, Basky, and Picasso. You will learn the foundation of art elements, and principles of design as we go through each project.
So, roll up your sleeves, find a quiet, comfortable place to draw, gather your supplies, and let's make the very best of this year. I will be hosting an ongoing weekly discussion board that I hope you'll be a part of. It's a fun way to share projects, and a positive way to support one another. You'll also be watching a weekly art video where I will guide you through each project. I'm looking forward to creating art with you all.

21st Century Tech Class-
Welcome to the 21st century! We will be exploring coding through Code.org for students' grades 3-8. These courses are designed to be self-paced in Unit 1. Perfect for students who need flexibility. I will have open office hours over Zoom from 12pm-1pm Tuesday and Thursday should any students want to share any projects or have questions. Please see the courses below for more information.

Virtual Lego Club Group: Mrs. Grimes, our coding teacher, will have regular Lego Club meetups beginning Monday, September 14th at 9:30 AM. Kindergarten Music Class with Mrs. Zynda!
Music, Movement and More; Oh My!!! Calling all kindergartners!
Please join us for a fun filled 30 minute music class for the following Thursdays: 10/15, 10/22, 10/29, & 11/5 from 11:30-12pm.
Learn how to warm-up your vocals properly, sing songs, play instruments while learning note lengths, rhythmic patterns all while developing your freestyle dance moves! Educational Specialist, Mrs. Slough, will join the sessions to help monitor for safety.

Current News and Updates
School Meals Available at Community Locations
On September 1, 2020, the USDA extended the summer grab-and-go school meal program for all children until December 31st, 2020. Children aged 1-18 are eligible to receive meals regardless of school or district of attendance. School districts are working hard to implement the new guidelines and meet local needs. Locally, we are aware of meal services in Escondido, Oceanside, and now Vista. Please visit their websites for more information. CLASS TRIPS
8th Grade Class Trip to the East Coast
2020 East Coast Trip Open Enrollment
The 2020 East Coast trip has been rescheduled for the following dates:
March 18-25, 2021
Additional infomation for this trip will be provided soon.
Due to COVID 19, Our 4th-6th Grade Class Trips have been cancelled for this year.
The 4th, 5th, and 6th grade class trips will be postponed this year due to COVID19. With shifting health updates, and the unpredictability of just how the school year will unfold, we have made the tough decision to cancel the trips for this year. Our 7th and 8th grade class trip has been moved from fall to Spring and we hope that this trip can happen. Obviously, as that date gets closer for these trips, we will keep our travelers updated if changes or a cancellation if needed. We regret this is happening and hope to see these educational adventures return next year.

KIDS FREE OCTOBER!
Every October kids eat, stay and play for FREE at many places in San Diego.
There are lots of options for families to get out and have some fun in the sun!
PARENT FORMS
Please complete this form if you will have someone else picking up your child(ren) from school.
This form is required to keep medication on campus for your child and must be signed by their physician. All medications must be kept in the front office.

The Parent Volunteer Program was established to connect parents’ skills, passion, and abilities to their school community. Parent volunteers are the backbone of The Classical Academy program, and our parents’ leadership and talents are truly what make our school successful!You can find the link to log your volunteer hours in the weekly school updates (look for the ‘volunteer’ icon at the top of the newsletter). Please enter all the information correctly so that your hours are applied to the correct category/event.
As the year progresses, the Parent Volunteer Coordinator may email you with links to sign up for events that may need help as well as any needed donations. Parents are always welcome to volunteer where they would like and do not need to wait to be invited to help. Our parents are always welcome on campus and in the classroom!

Box Tops for Education
There are now three ways you can submit Box Tops!
There are still products out there with traditional Box Tops that you clip and send. We will still accept those! Bring any clipped Box Tops to our front office.
Eventually all Box Tops will change to the new label - you can download the Box Tops app and scan your receipts - every box top is still worth 10 cents for our school!
*Or* Bring in your receipts and we will scan them for you!
PARKING POLICY
Parking Policy
Please follow the arrows and sign to our parking lot. We are the second lot as you drive in. The first lot is for the Church only. We want to be respectful of our neighbors, so please park in our lot.
There is no drop off in the church parking lot. For security of our kids, we need to drop them off in our parking lot or directly to our office. This is especially important for our K-2 classrooms on the first level. They must go to the office and be walked to class if they are late.

Drop off will be 15 minutes prior to scheduled class.
Students will line up outside in the basketball court and be walked to class by their teacher.
Late arrivals will need to check in at the office. Office Staff will walk students to their class.

During this time of required in-home learning, internet companies are committed to helping families in need to receive affordable home internet access.
