To CAV Families,
Welcome to Conference Week! I hope this finds you all doing well after a rainy weekend. Thank you for all your wonderful letters of support. These stories and words have meant so much to myself and the team. As we continue in the process of our Charter renewal, they will be helpful to show the board who we are and those that we serve. You still have time to send one in. We will close the submissions at 12pm today, 1/25. Please send your story of support to charterrenewal@classicalacademy.com.
We have been given new guidelines from the state for in person instruction for schools. Our Leadership and Health and Safety teams are combing over these documents to create a plan as we moved forward in bringing students safely back on campus. You will receive a message later this week from our CEO, Cameron Curry. After this message, I will send more details on expanding programming at our site.
I want to let you know about our Screening process. As we get kids back on campus, we will be using Parent Square to do our daily Health Screenings. Below you will find the information to add Parent Square to your phone. You will easily be able to answer the daily questions for your child when coming on campus. This will expedite our morning check ins. There will be more coming out on all the procedures for coming on campus soon.
I am hopeful we will have more kids on campus this coming semester. That is our goal and wish. I hope you all have a wonderful week and enjoy sharing all your hard work this past unit. We love seeing and having your child share their learning,
Take care,
Kirstin Lasto

The Show Must Go On! Musical Review 2021
T-shirts are now on sale!
Order online - youth and adult sizes available
This year’s performances will take place outdoors, under current COVID-19 safety restrictions, March 13th & 14th, 2021 at Classical Academy Vista. Tickets information will be available soon.
Thank you for your support!
Unfortunately, this trip will be postponed until NEXT year, March 31-April 7, 2022. We only had 5 people indicate that travel this year would be preferred, and we need at least 25 to make the pricing work.
Next year’s trip will be open to 8th and 9th graders. This current year has resulted in a lot of cancelled events and disappointments for our students. It is our wish to provide this amazing opportunity to the 8th graders who missed out on this due to no fault of their own. We are looking forward to a large, excited group of parents and students ready to explore an OPEN east coast!
Classic itinerary will stay the same. Pricing should be generally close. We will need to go through the process of re-pricing the trip to fit next year’s dates, however, pricing usually does not fluctuate much from year to year. Our classic itinerary will be back with Broadway scheduled to reopen in the summer! Also, April is Cherry Blossom season in DC!
Your Next Steps:
Remain registered for next year’s trip. If you would like to remain registered for next year’s trip, Students on Tour will shift your registration to the new tour. You will have an increased amount of time to pay for the trip as well.
Cancel your registration. If you decide to cancel the trip, you will need to do this directly with Students on Tour, NOT the school. (800)-222-2001 Please note that unless you purchased the trip insurance, the deposit is non-refundable. You will be missed!
Based on our survey, we will automatically move the deposits of those who selected the 2022 travel dates. If you chose to travel this year, or to not participate at all, but would like to change your mind and join us in 2022, please let me know and your full deposit will be moved to the new trip!
Regardless of your decision, I want to personally thank you all for having the enthusiasm for travel, the flexibility due to uncertainty, and the desire to make a life-long impact on your child’s deepening understanding of our country’s founding, struggle for independence, process of governing, and celebration of culture. Please email me if you have any questions and I am looking forward to traveling with many of you next year!

For new families interested in enrolling
Parents and students are invited to meet the principal, learn about program options, and complete a lottery slip for 2021-2022 enrollment. Open House dates and times for each of our campuses can be found on our website. The website will be updated with the Zoom access link and the digital lottery slip the day of the Open House. Check here for updates.
In order to streamline the daily health checks, our campus will be using ParentSquare's health reporting form for our students. We highly recommend parents download this app to complete your student's daily health screening from your phone or computer.
The Classical Academies offers the Positive Prevention Plus independent study curriculum in order to be in compliance with the California Healthy Youth Act. This puts parents at the center of these topics under the umbrella of independent study.
Our Implementation Plan
The Positive Prevention Plus online independent study curriculum will be offered beginning in the spring of 2021 for students in grades 7 and 9.
The curriculum will not be taught on campus and does not need to be submitted to the school for completion. It will be completed under the supervision of each student’s parent or guardian, with support available from fully trained team members on each campus.
Informational meetings for parents will be held on an annual basis.
Parent Information Sessions
There will be optional information sessions for parents of current 7th grade students which will cover an overview of the curriculum and implementation plan. Any other interested parents are welcome to attend as well.
Parents will have an opportunity to preview the content and ask questions of the site support teams. Parents will also be provided with information on how to preview the curriculum in more depth.
The parent information meeting for 7th grade students will be held:
Thursday, February 11th, 2021 from 6:00pm-7:00pm on Zoom. MEETING LINK
If you are unable to attend the meeting, a review of the information presented will be available in Schoology.
Opting Out of the Positive Prevention Plus Curriculum
Parents who wish to excuse their student from participation in the Positive Prevention Plus Curriculum will be able to do so prior to, during, or after the parent information sessions.
If you would like to opt-out your current 7th grade student(s), please provide a written and signed, or emailed note, simply stating that you wish to excuse your student from the Positive Prevention Plus curriculum. Deliver this note to the CAV front desk or email it to Charity Marino, email address below, no later than February 26th, 2021.

Due to COVID 19, our 4th-8th Grade Class Trips have been cancelled for this year.
The 4th, 5th, 6th,7th and 8th grade class trips will be postponed/cancelled this year due to COVID19. With shifting health updates, and the unpredictability of just how the school year will unfold, we have made the tough decision to cancel the trips for this year. We regret this is happening and hope to see these educational adventures return next school year.

Welcome to Art Class with Miss Kris! I'm so excited to take you on a journey in art this year. This is my 6th year teaching art with the Classical Academies, before that I was working in interior design and spent many years as a commercial artist. Art is such an exciting subject to learn, and it builds critical thinking skills, as well as creativity. This course will teach you many different ways of creating art. The class will look at many artists including Ansel Adams, Wyland, Georgia O'keeffe, Basky, and Picasso. You will learn the foundation of art elements, and principles of design as we go through each project.
So, roll up your sleeves, find a quiet, comfortable place to draw, gather your supplies, and let's make the very best of this year. I will be hosting an ongoing weekly discussion board that I hope you'll be a part of. It's a fun way to share projects, and a positive way to support one another. You'll also be watching a weekly art video where I will guide you through each project. I'm looking forward to creating art with you all.

Breakfast Program
The Classical Academies participates in a school meal program by offering a nutritious breakfast meal every school day. Our breakfast program is available to all students that are on campus longer than two hours for an educational purpose.
Prepackaged Breakfast Kits are available on campus at various times throughout the day to allow for flexible schedules. The Breakfast Kits must be ordered online at https://classicalacademies.boonli.com by noon the day before your student is on campus.
When students arrive on campus, they will be able to choose from the available prepackaged Breakfast Kits. Each Breakfast Kit includes a breakfast cereal, dried fruit, unsweetened regular or flavored applesauce, graham crackers, and low-fat milk. All Breakfast Kits include a spoon and napkin.
The cost is $3.00 per Breakfast Kit. Eligible students may receive meals free of charge if qualified.

School Meals Available at Community Locations
On October 9, 2020, the USDA extended the summer grab-and-go school meal program to encompass the entire school year. Children are eligible to receive meals regardless of school or district of attendance. School districts are working hard to implement the new guidelines and meet local needs. Locally, we are aware of meal services in Escondido, Oceanside, and Vista. Please visit their websites for more information. To find out when your neighborhood school will be ready to participate in this program, please visit 20/21 Meal Sites for Students.
Please also visit these other community resources:
U.S. Department of Education Meals for Kids Site Finder
Please complete this form if you will have someone else picking up your child(ren) from school.
This form is required to keep medication on campus for your child and must be signed by their physician. All medications must be kept in the front office.
The Parent Volunteer Program was established to connect parents’ skills, passion, and abilities to their school community. Parent volunteers are the backbone of The Classical Academy program, and our parents’ leadership and talents are truly what make our school successful! You can find the link to log your volunteer hours in the weekly school updates (look for the ‘volunteer’ icon at the top of the newsletter). Please enter all the information correctly so that your hours are applied to the correct category/event.
As the year progresses, the Parent Volunteer Coordinator may email you with links to sign up for events that may need help as well as any needed donations. Parents are always welcome to volunteer where they would like and do not need to wait to be invited to help. Our parents are always welcome on campus and in the classroom!
Please view this page for additional information on our volunteer program.

There are now three ways you can submit Box Tops!
There are still products out there with traditional Box Tops that you clip and send. We will still accept those! Bring any clipped Box Tops to our front office.
Eventually all Box Tops will change to the new label - you can download the Box Tops app and scan your receipts - every box top is still worth 10 cents for our school!
*Or* Bring in your receipts and we will scan them for you!
Please follow the arrows and sign to our parking lot. We are the second lot as you drive in. The first lot is for the Church only. We want to be respectful of our neighbors, so please park in our lot.
There is no drop off in the church parking lot. For security of our kids, we need to drop them off in our parking lot or directly to our office. This is especially important for our K-2 classrooms on the first level. They must go to the office and be walked to class if they are late.
Thank you for following our parking policies!
School Drop Off/Pick Up Traffic Flow Diagram
Drop off will be 15 minutes prior to scheduled class.
Students will line up outside in the basketball court and be walked to class by their teacher.
Late arrivals will need to check in at the office. Office Staff will walk students to their class.
