During an Evacuation
If a person could not walk at all, as a Warden you would identify any able bodied passerby to assist them to outside the offices, down the pathway along the fence towards the Bus Shed. This will enable you as a Warden to continue searching your area. Send a text to the CFW regarding your location.
It is the same with any person needing assistance - identify someone to assist them in getting out of the building, if it is safe to do so, and continue with your role.
When you get out of the building and you can see the infirmed away from the building, you can go ahead and text “Area” and “All Clear” to your Zone Warden
Don’t forget you also need to have their name checked off the list at the Assembly point or the Deputy Wardens may think they are still in the building.
For whatever reason, a person may refuse to evacuate the building. In this case you would repeat the urgency for them to evacuate again. State clearly that their life may be in danger if they stay. If they refuse, continue to search and report the person’s location to the Chief Warden.
If you come across an unconscious person, you should attempt to move them from immediate danger if it is safe to do so. Get someone else to call an ambulance - a person who calls an ambulance must stay on the phone with the operator so unless it is life threatening and there is no one else available, you should not be the person to make this call. Notify the Chief Warden.
If you come across a locked room for which you cannot gain entry, you should make all attempts to determine if there is a person inside the locked room. They may be passed out from smoke inhalation.
Feel the back of the door with your hand to determine if there is a fire on the other side. If there is no warmth and it is safe to do so, try to open the door by using the handle. If it is locked then knock loudly and shout in order to determine if anyone is inside.
If there is no response then inform the Chief Warden that the room was locked and you cannot tell if anyone was inside.
