In the event of a fire being well alight, staff, contractors and/or volunteers should call out:
FIRE FIRE
EVACUATE EVACUATE
And proceed to move all persons out of the building to the Evacuation Assembly point.
Anyone finding a fire that cannot be contained must call 000 to alert the fire department.
The Chief Fire Warden, Andy Meyer, must then be called to alert him to the situation.
In addition to this, the Chief Fire warden will also call 000.
On evidence of a fire or threat requiring evacuation:
Move to designated area if safe to do so
Instruct people to evacuate the building to the rugby oval
Host to collect first aid kit and proceed to evacuation point
Teachers to account for students in their individual classes at the evacuation point, using their check-in software
Assess if threat is in their area, if so seek to contain
Once a room is checked the door is to be shut but not locked
Once people have left the premises, ensure that doors are shut in the event of a fire, as this stops smoke, and contains the fire.
NB: In the event of a bomb scare, the opposite applies. Doors should be left open in this case
Ensure people do not attempt to re-enter the building until it is safe to do so.
At the Assembly Point and identify if any persons are missing. Let the Chief Fire Warden know by phone or in person or Emergency Services if you are the one communicating with them.
The CCA Manager will contact parents of students under 18, once they are safely at the evacuation point.
NB: If the Manager is not available, this becomes the responsibility of the Host.
