From time to time a disturbance may occur within or outside of one of our services or events on our Brisbane campus. Where a disturbance occurs in a smaller group or meeting on campus, the person in charge of that meeting would determine the best course of action to take to ensure all those present are safe, taking into account these Emergency Procedures.
Disturbances happen for many reasons. Types of disturbances include:
Medical Emergency - someone collapsing, anaphylactic shock, accident or injury for example. May or may not require an ambulance.
Behavioural Emergency - triggered person, heightened emotions. Person may or may not have mental health issues. May or may not be known to us.
Threatening Emergency - either a person who has attended church with sinister intent or through a behavioural emergency becomes a Threatening Emergency. Can also include when a weapon is seen whether there is a disturbance or not.
Pastor on Call
Sunday meetings, A1 services and major events will have a person, usually a pastor, who is trained in Mental Health First Aid, rostered on to Elvanto services in the POC position.
This role involves:
Attendance at the service or event for which they are rostered on.
Being the point person to be called in any Emergency, be it Medical, Behavioural or Threatening.
Working out the triage / best course of action in the situation.
Filling in an incident report as soon as possible.
Contact Ps Brian Mulheran if more people are required.
NB. Where a responsible person is the first responder (an Exec pastor or another person who is normally rostered on as a POC) and knows what to do/steps to take, then the rostered POC would attend to offer help and if their help is not required, they may remain at the scene, being available to offer additional support if required. If the situation is a minor one and the responsible first responder is dealing with the situation, the POC need not stay. The POC rostered on, however, should follow up that an Incident Report is submitted in a timely manner.
First Impressions Role
This role involves:
Attendance to Huddle and the service or event for which they are rostered on
In a Behavioural or Medical Emergency:
Making themselves available to the POC.
Helping manage the scene if required.
Finding a Doctor, Nurse, First Aid Responder if required.
Calling 000 if required.
Alerting Security to attend and be on standby.
In a Threatening Emergency, they should follow the directions of the POCor Security Team role.
Security Role
Sunday, A1 services and major events will have a person, trained in church safety and security, rostered on to Elvanto services.
This role involves:
Attendance at the service/event for which they are rostered on.
Attending any Behavioural or Threatening Emergency.
Be on hand to assist the POC who will assess the course of action.
Where a Behavioural Emergency becomes a Threatening Emergency or a person has come on to our campus threatening harm, the Security role will take a greater role in outworking the triage plan.
Staff / Pastors
Staff who are in the vicinity of a Medical or Behavioural Emergency should attend the scene and be on hand in case the POC requires assistance.
In a Threatening Emergency, they should follow the directions of the POC or Security Team role.
Volunteers
Do not need to attend a Medical or Behavioural Emergency and can go about their business unless an Emergency Evacuation or Lockdown is called.
In a Threatening Emergency, they should follow the directions of the POC or Security Team role.
