Character Traits

My School, My Museum

3rd Grade | SEPTEMBER | English Language Arts + Visual Arts

The students discovered NEW characters (and learned how to describe them) in fabulous folk tales as well as AMAZING artworks. As readers and viewers, students got to know unique characters (some human, some arachnid, and some animal) through character traits, specifically personality and physical traits.  To learn more about the program: My School, My Museum, click HERE.

Character Traits-Field Trip 2

Teachers, Amanda Willard, Nikkole Zincone, and Monica Harding, reintroduce character traits.

Our teachers featured two video readings of the books, Anansi and the Melon and The Magic of Anansi. Students were asked to assign physical traits and personality traits for Anansi (the spider) in both videos and to compare and contrast those traits.

Teacher, Trevor Hanna, assists students with their work.

Monica Harding (dressed as The Magic School Bus character, Ms. Frizzle) assists students with their work.

In the Galleries

Students participated in discussions about the art and artworks in the galleries. Educators moved the conversation to include vocabulary that the students learned in the classroom.

Back at school, students will continue to refer back to the Visual Art and ELA concepts in the coming weeks.
