American Identity Collage

Students are introduced to Civics, studying the rights and responsibilities of citizens, as well as the immigration process and push and pull factors that cause immigrants to choose the United States. Students then learn about the art of collage and create a collage that reflects their American Identity. They must include some of the Elements of Art and Principles of Design.

Objective: Students will creatively express their personal understanding of what it is to be an American citizen through the medium of collage.

Outcome: Students are exposed to the art form of collage and understanding of the elements and principles of design. From their understanding of rights and responsibilities as a citizen of the US, students will use images, photographs, text, other 2-D materials to produce a personal expression of their identity as an American.

"As an American, I can identify myself with large bodies of water, beautiful skylines, literature and the countries I have originated from (ancestors). I tie my identity together by shaping my collage to look like an American Flag!"
