Multiplying with ART
My School, My Museum
3rd Grade | NOVEMBER | Math + Visual Arts
The students were working on interpreting products of whole numbers and using this concept to add and multiply in the classroom. To build on that, students used artworks in the museum collection to aid in their learning to add and multiply. Through their calculations and discussions, students also learned about the messaged being communicated by the visual images (in this case repeated images). What a wonderful learning experience!

In the Classroom I
Students started out the morning by reviewing the math concepts they had learned in class.

To review, students participated in these two fun YouTube videos. Be sure to sing along and improve your ability to SKIP COUNT!
To make sure the students could apply what they had learned (and expand on it), 3rd Grade teacher, Amanda Willard, walked the students through problems on the white board.
Teacher, Niki Zincone, continued the discussion in the classroom.
And, Monica Harding, introduced a skip counting chart.
In the Galleries
In the Galleries, students learned about works of art AND used the repeated images and pattern to practice skip counting, addition, and multiplication. (See the handouts used at the stations)
