CARNIVAL & Venetian Masks
Enhance learning of the Carnival in Venice through the making of traditional masks.
Objective: Students enhance their understanding of the Carnival and Venice by learning about an art-making process that is embedded in the culture.
Outcomes:
Students will learn about the Carnival in Venice, specifically the history of the festival and the motivations behind it and the use of traditional masks.
Students will learn about an art-making process, mask-making. More specifically: How master mask-makers create masks today and throughout history, how to paper mache, and how to experiment with 3-D artmaking to create one of five traditional masks with provided materials.
