Creating Superheros

Students visited Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art to see the exhibition, Men of Steel, Women of Wonder. After the exhibition, they began to create their own superheros. They created a hero with strengths and vulnerabilities and, through creative writing prompts, developed his or her character. Students learned about color theory and basic graphic design principles to create an emblem for their super hero. They then made a drawing, computer graphic, or needle felted emblem to present for a grade.

Objective: Students use superheros in art to enhance their narrative writing ability in class. Students also learn about color theory (a color wheel) and 1 of 3 art mediums to create their superhero emblem.
