Term 3 Week 3 and 4

WALT find a problem and design something that helps to solve the problem.

Success Criteria:

  • Have multiple ideas to solve a problem.
  • Listen to other people's ideas and think about how they might work.
  • Describe the positives and negatives of your own and other peoples ideas.
  • Collaborate in a group to make decisions and add onto each other's ideas.

Brainstorm your ideas.

Each class makes a list of ideas.

PMI

Each class takes their list of ideas and shares them out to groups to think about. The groups PMI each idea. Make a copy of the PMI, fill it in and post it to Seesaw.

Presenting your PMI

Each class chooses a few groups to share their solution with their pod. As a pod we will chooses 3 or 4 ideas to think about further.

Making a decision.

Choose one of the solutions, discuss what it would be like to carry out that idea using the six thinking hats. Make a copy and Fill out the form and post it to seesaw.

Making a design

In your group make a plan for your design.

It needs to have:

  • A list of materials needed.
  • How it will be attached.
  • What it will look like.
  • How it will be used.

Making a model

Now that you have your plan your job is to make a model.

  1. Make a model out of paper.

Reflect: What changes do you need to make to your plan? Will the shapes that you have designed work?

2. Testing materials.

We need to decide what materials we are going to make our product out of. What something that is:

  • durable
  • attractive
  • user friendly
  • Waterproof (if appropriate)

Test materials and fill in the form and post it to Seesaw. Write a report on what you found out about the materials.

Reflect: What changes do you need to make to your plan? What materials are you going to make your final product out of?
