Treaty or Treat Me?

Authentic Task

Students will create a dramatic presentation of the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi that highlights the differences between the two treaties and the reasons for which both Maori and Pakeha wanted the treaty.

WALT - draft and form an M&M's Treaty

Create a treaty for the sharing of a packet on M&M's with your group. The treaty needs to be written and signed by your whole group and your teacher before you can open the packet.

Were you happy with the treaty after you opened the packet?

Did everyone follow the treaty?

Would you use the same treaty with another packet?

Would you change anything?

What was the most difficult decision of the treaty?

What parts of your treaty linked to the 3 P's (partnership, protection and participation)?

  1. Watch the video.
  2. Sign the treaty given to you by your teacher.
  3. Follow the agreements outlined in the treaty.
