Virtual Learning Remote Education Information for parents

Information about the schedule for live and pre-recorded lessons will be updated via the class pages. Please see Class Dojo and Google Classroom for more information about daily activities.

At Hazelwood Academy, we use a range of digital tools that we can use to support learning at home. The following approaches describe what these may look like.

Live Lessons

At Hazelwood Academy, we use Google for Education and Google Meet to host live streamed lessons for our children. The lesson structure will be similar to the lesson the children would have if they were in school however the format will be adapted for a remote session. As this is a ‘live’ episode of learning, the teacher will be able to assess and address misconceptions in real time which provides greater opportunity for support, challenge and progress.

Pre Recorded Lessons

At Hazelwood Academy, we have access to our own YouTube channel and would host some prerecorded lesson videos there. The video is designed to support learners through the lesson content so that they can then complete the subsequent independent learning. This can be paused or re-watched to aid learners when following instructions.

Live Hangouts

At Hazelwood Academy, we love coming together for a chat to share our experiences and listen to our friends. Classes will use Google Meet to catch up during the week.

ClassDojo

At Hazelwood Academy, teachers use ClassDojo as their main communication tool between parents, children and staff. Some children will have their tasks loaded on their class story each day and are expected to send work back to their child's teacher using the portfolio function. Other key communication messages, events, newsletters and letters will be sent out by the school office via text and emails.

Google Classroom

At Hazelwood Academy, we use Google for Education and the Google Classroom Environment to host our virtual school. Children in Years 2 - Year 6 will be issued with an @hazelwoodacademy.org email address and password that will allow them to access the remote learning and make use of the following apps:

- Google Classroom

- Google Docs

- Google Slides

- Google Sheets

- Google Drive

- Google Meet

Tasks will be set each day during term time and children will be expected to complete tasks and submit them in a timely fashion.

Third Party Applications and Software

At Hazelwood  Academy, we use also use some third party applications to support learning and teaching within our virtual environment. These include:

- DoodleMaths

- DoodleEnglish

- Times Table RockStars

- Accelerated Reader

Devices

At Hazelwood Academy, we use Chromebooks and IPads to support our learning. We will always do our best to ensure your child has access to a device and can provide a MiFI internet hub to support with internet access at home if it is required.

All Hazelwood devices make use of E-Safe and RM Buzz to ensure that children are kept safe whilst using our devices.

We ask all our families to treat our devices with respect and keep them safe and secure whilst they are in your care and return them to school when asked for a health check or when our virtual school finishes.

We are able to remotely monitor the devices and deactivate them if we believe a device is being misused.
