November is Native American Heritage month which is a time to celebrate rich and diverse cultures, traditions, and histories and to acknowledge the important contributions of Native people. Heritage Month is also an opportune time to educate the general public about tribes, to raise a general awareness about the unique challenges Native people have faced both historically and in the present, and the ways in which tribal citizens have worked to conquer these challenges.
Last year Kyle Harmon, of Meade High School, shared some valuable resources to bring awarness to the Native Culture.
Please consider reviewing the compiled resources and sharing with your students.

2021-2022 Assessment and Curriculum Writing Academy Initiative
This year's AWCIA will look slightly different then in year's past as we will not have 2 dedicated weeks of curriculum writing. There will be flexibility within the writing schedule to afford more opportunity for writing throughout the school year (as well as the summer, if needed). We are looking for writers who might be interested in the courses listed in the table below.
New to curriculum writing? This is a great opportunity to work with your colleagues from across the county and to make some extra money as well! If you are interested in learning more about the process, please do not hesitate to reach out to Christiana!

It is important to recognize the many wonderful things that are taking place in AACPS HPED every single day.
Please take a moment to nominate an amazing colleague to be featured in our "Shout Out" section each month!
This month's AACPS HPED "Shout Outs" go to...
Lauren Tuozzo, Crofton Middle School - for being an amazing department chair and doing everything she can to keep us on the same page! ~ Sara White
Stefanie Carpenter, Annapolis Middle School - she has helped me out so much these last 2 years and I really don't know how I would have made it this far without her! Stephanie Carpenter for holding us down at AMS! ~ Greg Loeffler and Chelsea Tavik
Chad Roberts, Severna Park Middle School - He has been awesome bringing our department together and advocating for us despite behavior issues, policy changes, and uniforms that never seem to arrive! He goes out of his way to check in with us in the dance wing daily, and it does not go unnoticed or unappreciated. :) ~ Kristin Castaneda
Shout out to my Meade High School HPED team. Great people!!! ~ Kyle Harmon
