Punxsutawney Phil did not see his shadow this year which means spring is on the horizon! Spring sports begin, March Madness will soon be underway, and Opening Day will be here before you know it (Let's go O's!). We're almost through the 3rd marking period and to spring break! We can do this!!
Please read through this month's newsletter, which always has great resources, updates and opportunities to provide feedback.
Are you feeling lucky? 🍀 Send Christiana a video of you, your team, or better yet, some students explaining why Health, PE and/or Dance is important in education. You can email your video to cgwalsh@aacps.org or text her at 410-707-0472. The first five videos received will be rewarded by the March leprechaun. (Thank you to Severn River MS, Glendale ES, Benfield ES, Crofton MS, and Brooklyn Park MS for participating!)
It is important to recognize the many wonderful things that are taking place in AACPS HPED every single day.
Please take a moment to nominate an amazing colleague to be featured in our "Shout Out" section each month!
This month's AACPS HPED "Shout Outs" go to...
Pam Cole (Old Mill MS-North) - Ms. Cole goes above and beyond to check on her department and is always willing to step into assist the department. Whether she is checking in on her department members throughout the day or helping clean the dance studio floors or laying lines for other classes instruction, Ms. Cole is an example of a productive leader. Thank YOUUUUUUUU!!! ~ Adam Bellarin (Old Mill MS-North)
Amanda Weisgerber (Annapolis HS) - Amanda always goes above and beyond to support and help out. She gives great advice and we appreciate her! ~ Bethany Garland (Annapolis HS)
Matt Bugenhagen (Glen Burnie HS) - Mr. Bugenhagen has fulfilled the roll of Bi-lingual Health teacher at GBHS. Watching his interactions with his ESOL students is inspiring. He utilizes Spanish to help with instruction but teaches in English since the goal for this group of students is to become more proficient in English. The students are presented with activities that are differentiated based on their comfort level in the class, however, they still achieve the same goal in the end. The ESOL students are lucky to have a teacher like Mr. Bugenhagen to work with them in this capacity and ultimately earn their Health credit, taking them one step closer to graduation. ~ Stacey Wirth (Glen Burnie HS0
Tim Smith (Crofton Meadows ES) - Tim let's me borrow equipment for my homeschool and he is always willing to chat openly about PE games, student concerns, and life as an educator. Thanks for being awesome Tim! ~ Deanna Corsones (Eastport ES)
Ronnie Hopkins (Annapolis HS) - Ronnie has had a great start here at A High! She has been doing a stellar job with getting students engaged and holding all students accountable. It is exciting to see what new drill she is introducing to her team sports Basketball class. Way to go Ronnie!! ~ Amanda Weisgerber (Annapolis HS)
