It's MAY!!!
We've almost made it through yet another school year! We can do it!
As we close out the first week of May and Teacher Appreciation Week, we know you deserve more than an email, lunch or piece of candy (or KIND bar) to recognize all that you do. These are all small tokens of appreciation in a profession that has become more demanding over the last few years. We wish we could change the things that weigh heavy on your shoulders.
Please take care of yourselves and know that we are here to support you however we can.

It is important to recognize the many wonderful things that are taking place in AACPS HPED every single day.
Please take a moment to nominate an amazing colleague to be featured in our "Shout Out" section each month!
This month's AACPS HPED "Shout Outs" go to...
Staci McKay (Southern HS) - Not only does Mrs. McKay have awesome and engaging Health Lessons for her students to participate in she is also extremely helpful within the HPED Department. She is willing to go above and beyond to make sure her students and coworkers are supported and set for success. I appreciate everything she does for Southern's HPED Department! ~Jeff Repass
Jessica Macrae (Jacobsville ES) - Jess has started a WORKOUT WEDNESDAY with the entire school and faculty. Each classroom does a workout video she creates and teachers come to work out in athletic gear. It is fantastic faculty and student wellness. ~Chris Hersl
Greg Loeffler (Annapolis MS) - Greg and I collaborate different ideas for activities. We try to support each other even though we teach at different schools. ~ Colin Saylor - Old Mill Middle North
Jenny Madden (Arundel HS ) - She is the BEST department chair anyone could ask for! She is always busting her tail to make sure her department has everything they need. She has helped me to become a better teacher in the short time I have worked with her. She is an awesome educator, department chair, and overall person in general! Thank you! ~Austin Eagle
Julie Blumstein (Point Pleasant ES) - Julie is always willing to fill in and picks up slack when we need her! The ultimate team player! ~Jaime Millett

It's that time of year where we see vacancies and program growth opportunities.
As a professional courtesy, please do not hesitate to reach out if you are considering/interested in a change or there is discussion of program growth.
If you choose to participate in the voluntary transfer process, please be sure to visit HR navigator https://intranet.aacps.org/Dept/HR/Pages/InternalVacancies.aspx to view/apply for open positions. You should begin to regularly check the portal in March. Don’t rely on the notifications you set to alert you to vacancies that you might be interested in pursuing – I’ve been told they are not reliable.
March 1- Voluntary Transfer process begins
April 15- Resignation deadline for Unit I 10-month employees in order to retain benefits through August
May 1- Non-tenured resignation deadline
July 1- Tenured resignation deadline
July 31- Voluntary Transfer process ends
If you are non-tenured and wish to be able to explore other transfer opportunities in AACPS, you must get permission from HR to do so. Here is the form to complete: Request to Participate in Voluntary Transfer Process (Unit 1 Non-Tenured Employee).pdf
