Getting too many emails

This is common in any organisation, not just education. Talk to anyone and they'll moan about unnecessary and irrelevant emails. Its the digital version of small talk and gossip. Luckily there are a few easy fixes to help ease the flow of emails.

Use Reply instead of Reply all

Use the chat function rather than replying. This can be good if it's a bit of a conversation and the person is still online.

Use your calendar to invite people to meetings. This is how the real world does it!

Think before you send the email. Can you just talk to the person, do you need to actually send it?

Ipads

Middle and Senior classes will get Ipads issued later this week. Remember we are deliberately multi platform at St Mary's so students get a range of experiences. Read on below why it is a bad idea to just use Chromebooks all day long.

Some reminders:

Make sure you set up some guidelines for Ipad use in your class with the students.
Have a storage area where you can charge them - not by a window.
Get yourself and your students proficient on the core apps that are already installed - these are tried and tested appps that I've seen in many schools.
Use the Ipads as they are intended - mobile and for creating.
Reset the lock screen and home screen so you know which Ipads are your classes.
Tee up some students in your class to be Ipad monitors - they can charge them, clear the photos...
Report any damage straight away, it happens sometimes.
Do not swap any Ipads amongst classes - they are assigned to you, I will be getting the same hardware back from you at the end of the year
Don't know how to use an app? Give it to your students to learn, then they can teach you.
