I'm going to put the agency stuff at the beginning because I just found this and thought it was quite thought provoking. Have a read yourself here.
Please check that you select the dates for notices on the Edge. This just makes it easier for students and teachers to know when events are on rather than turning up every day for a week ;-)
Please don't try to update the school Ipads yourself. Most of the Ipads are set up to automatically update however if you need apps updated send me an email and arrange a time for me to do it. It is time consuming to reset the school Apple ID because someone has entered the login details incorrectly too many times.
The new Junior Ipads are managed by our mobile device management system. They junior team leaders have an arrangement in place to add apps.
At our school we have Youtube enabled because the content can be very good for helping students learn. But this comes with a bit responsibility:
While we have the Network 4 Learning filters and our Google restricted mode to help us there are going to be videos that we don't want our students to access that creep through.
Think of the consequences of a student seeing something inappropriate - is it worth it? It only takes one incident for our community to be concerned about the use of online spaces.
When your students do see something inappropriate at school? Don't overreact and keep it in perspective. Chances are they were just being curious. Remember to communicate with your team and get others' perspectives rather than jumping on the student. Use it as a learning opportunity. Remember to add a pastoral note to The Edge so a record is kept of incidents.
Here are a few links if you want to read some more.
How to safely use Youtube in the classroom
Parents guide from Common Sense Media
Remember all teachers and students have signed the acceptable use agreements.
Use the embed options in Youtube so your embedded videos don't come with related content that you can't control.
Here are a few gems you'll want to take a look at.
Did you know that Google Chrome on your Ipads now comes with a qr code scanner?
