Dear North Country NYS Master Teachers,
I hope this message finds you enjoying summer!
I share the 2016 Annual PD Conference Program and final conference information.
(Yes, I am sending this to all NYS Master Teachers, because the Annual Conference Program also includes regional news about current and upcoming events around NYS. Enjoy!)
We are proud to announce that this year we have changed from a printed program to a digital one. Please be sure to download the PDF to your handheld device prior to August 16. We will make available a four-page conference guide upon your arrival to Corey Union. The guide will contain the schedule for the day, a list of workshop titles and locations, and map. NYSMTP staff and conference signage will be on hand to guide you throughout the day.
We are looking forward to another great statewide network event, including:
· 3 sessions of outstanding MT-led workshops and a poster session highlighting outstanding work this year
· Chancellor Nancy L. Zimpher’s inspiring comments and (longer) Q&A time
· A keynote address—and lunch time table “challenge”—with Dr. Sharon Bowers, Associate Director of the National Institute of Aerospace’s Center for Integrative STEM Education
· A special opportunity: Share why you teach on video.
If you will be in the Cortland area the evening of August 15, (the evening before the conference), the Central NY Master Teachers have organized the following optional activities:
1. Astronomy Night at SUNY Cortland. Get a chance to view SUNY Cortland’s new planetarium and watch a show! The show will be about an hour long beginning at 7pm, with time for Q & A. Afterwards, we will break the telescopes out and do some night sky viewing. Sunset on this day will be at 8pm, and the Moon, Saturn and Mars will be out as well. This will be in Bowers Hall on the SUNY Cortland Campus. RSVP: https://sunycortland.wufoo.com/forms/rfodwgh0pu4t0g/
2. Master Teacher Trivia Night: 7:30-9:30pm at the Ramada Hotel, 2 River Street, Cortland. Come test out your math and science knowledge against Master Teachers from across the state! This will be in the lounge area, where food and beverages will be available for purchase. RSVP: https://sunycortland.wufoo.com/forms/r8363oh1mqi4mv/
If you are traveling by NYSMTP chartered bus: Confirmation details (time, parking, etc.) will be sent to you later this week. We are waiting on a few parking lot details.
If you are arriving to Cortland August 15, and staying at the Ramada Hotel, the bus will depart at 7:50am, Tuesday AM. Please check out of the hotel before this time and bring your luggage to the bus. Your luggage will be secured (locked in the storage sections of the bus). Please take with you all valuables and items that you’d like for the conference because you will not have access to luggage during the day.
If you are driving to the conference, please refer to the attached map to find the parking lot and Corey Union. Please allow 10-15 minutes to walk from the parking lot to Corey Union. The sign at the entrance to the parking lot says:
SUNY Cortland
Admissions (Overflow Parking)
Lot A9
Mileage Reimbursement for NYS Master Teachers who are traveling more than 35 miles to attend, have four people (including the driver), and are not in the Central Region Cohort: After you complete your travel, please email the program office, masterteacherprogram@suny.edu, for the two NYS travel forms. All travel reimbursement forms are due by Tuesday, August 30, 2016, two weeks after the conference.
Classes will not be in session at SUNY Cortland so please look for the NYS Master Teacher Program Annual PD Conference signs as you approach Corey Union.
Special thanks to Santos Avila, Jamie Liang, and Danika Ortiz for their outstanding energy helping to prepare for the conference.
Please save this email so you can refer to it as you depart home for the conference.
If you have any questions, please email us. It is best to email before August 15 for a quick response. (All NYSMTP Staff, including Site Coordinators, will be at SUNY Cortland and responses to your inquiries may not be immediate.)
