Extended Fieldwork
Stage A : Planning Research Question/ Hypothesis
Determine the research aim by asking geographical questions that is relevant to topic of study.
Gather background information and summarise key ideas from secondary data.
Formulate the research question in a precise manner or craft a hypothesis that is testable.
Research must consider the place, time and scale of the fieldwork involved, including practicalities and safety concerns.
Stage B: Data Collection and Methods
Determine the type of data (i.e. quantitative or qualitative) to collect, including how much data (i.e. sample size) and how it is selected (i.e. sampling method).
Determine the data collection method based on the type of data required.
Determine if the collection of data is from primary or secondary sources.
Stage C: Data Processing and Analysis
Process and analyse the data collected using an appropriate qualitative or quantitative technique.
Stage D: Data Presentation
Select and justify the most appropriate manner to present your findings after analysing the data.
Stage E: Conclusion and Evaluation
State the results of your research; answer the research question or accept/reject the hypothesis posed.
Evaluate the method(s) used.
