Minutes from Energy Committee meeting - Oct 25, 2023
In attendance: Carl, Tim, and Jen
Absent: Jim, Carol
Guests: Chip Muller
Carl called the meeting to order at 5:04 PM.
Tim moved to approve the minutes from Sept 28, 2023. Jen seconded. All approved.
Follow up/ Reports:
Window Dressers: The community build ended one day early due to two factors: there
were fewer inserts to build than last year, and there were enough competent volunteers to
complete the build in five days.
Letter in support of MERP level 2 audits: Carl reviewed the letter with the committee,
who supported it. Gordon Black submitted the audit request to BGS, along with the letter.
Oct 1st event at SVAC: Bill McKibben and Thomas Hand were among presenters at the
350VT event called “Empower VT”. The current state of VT’s electricity generation and the
Renewable Energy Credits (RECs) were discussed.
Unfinished business:
Solar Tour: Carl contacted Bill Laberge about what format might work best: visiting
several installations, or staying at one location. Bill suggested two sites - one commercial
and one residential. No date was set, but will likely happen next year.
Inventory of Town equipment, vehicles, etc.: There is consensus that this should happen.
New members: Chip Muller joined the committee meeting to learn more about our mission
and to share a little about himself and why he may be interested in becoming a member.
Chip expressed a desire to apply for a spot on the EC and will follow through online.
New business:
Energy Forum: The Sunderland Energy Committee is hosting a forum at the Manchester
library to discuss Vermont’s energy future. Andrew McKeever is moderating. The panel is on
Thursday, Oct 26th, from 7:00 to 9:00 PM, and is free.
The next EC meeting is tentatively scheduled for Thurs, Nov 16 at 5:00 PM, at the town hall.
Tim will chair the meeting and get an agenda to Laurie Burdick by Monday, Nov 13th.
At 5:50 PM, a motion to adjourn was made by Jen, seconded by Tim, and passed
unanimously.
