Introduction:
Install and use a Picoscope 5000 series for, in this example, measuring ICT traces.
Plug in picoscope to USB port on computer
It is suggested that this cable either be shielded (using mesh sheath or a manufactured shielded cable) or wrap both ends of cable around ferrites at least 7 turns. This should reduce noise on picoscope signal
Connect "Ext." connector on picoscope directly to a DG box channel using BNC cable
This will allow you to adjust trigger timing for the picoscope independently. The signal you are measuring will likely be slightly offset from camera triggers, etc.
On the computer, navigate to Z:\software\Review\Install\picoscope
Install PicoScope6 and the relevant SDK for the computer (usually the 32-bit version)
At this point, you should be able to open the picoscope on its native software (PicoScope6) and see that it is running.
DB editor > Device Ops > Device > Device (Add)
Set:
Device (name of device)
Location (set location)
Default Experiment (set experiment)
IP Address (IP of computer it is connected to)
Devicetype (select PicoscopeV2)
Class (select oscilloscope)
GUI EXE Path (copy and paste: "\General GUIs\Device GUIs\GUI_Picoscope\GUI_Picoscope.exe")
Enabled? (set yes)
Expt Lines (set experiment)
ScanMode (set enabled)
DB editor > Device Variable Ops > Device Variable (Add/Edit/Delete)
Navigate to device
Mandatory to set:
BitDepth (Picoscope 5000 series has variable bit depth. Different bit depth will result in different sampling rates. Check picoscope documentation. Generally set to 12 bit)
Enable.ChX (set to "yes" for whichever channel(s) you are using)
EnableSerialNumber (set to "on")
EnableTrigger (set to "on")
PostTriggerSamples (set to a certain value to save samples before the trigger. Suggested 1500)
PreTriggerSamples (Suggested same as PostTriggerSamples)
Range.ChX (this is the voltage range the picoscope measures. You may need to adjust this once you see signal on the scope. Suggested 100-500 mV)
SerialNumber (set to serial number on sticker on bottom of picoscope. Ex. "HT445/0093")
