Dr. HA Kook Sun joined our lab on July 13. Welcome! Dr. Ha is an expert on the mechanisms of elongation, pausing and termination in E. coli gene transcription, and expected to contribute to our studies on novel mechanisms of gene transcription, especially of the termination process.
He has recently obtained a PhD degree from the University of Wisconsin at Madison with works on E. coli transcription factor NusA in the lab of Prof. Robert LANDICK in Department of Biochemistry (http://www.biochem.wisc.edu/faculty/landick/). His PhD thesis (2010) was "Roles of NusA domains in transcriptional pausing and termination and identification of a novel nuclease activity associated with NusA."
Dr. Ha has worked on protein crystal structure for his master degree in the lab of Prof. SUH Se Won (http://sws2.snu.ac.kr/) at Seoul National University Department of Chemistry (2002 MS thesis: crystallization and preliminary X-ray crystallographic analysis of the TM1442 gene product from Thermotoga maritima), after having attended the undergraduate program of the same department and served to army from 1994 through 2000.
