Baylor University는 텍사스에서 가장 오랜 전통을 자랑하는 사립대학으로 매우 훌
륭한 학부 교육 제도를 가지고 있고, 최근 대학원 교육과 연구 분야에 많은 투자를 하
고 있습니다. 텍사스의 작은 도시인 Waco에 위치하며 안전하고 생활비가 저렴하면
서도 달라스와 오스틴과 매우 가깝습니다. (휴스턴에 있는 baylor college of
medicine은 원래 우리학교 의과대학 이었으나 1969년에 독립하였습니다.)
Genetic Analysis of Photoreceptor Development
We are working on the photoreceptor development of
Drosophila eye. Photoreceptors in the fly and higher
animals share lots of structural similarities as well as the
conserved genetic mechanisms for their development. I am
trying to dissect genetic and cellular basis underlying the
organization and maintenance of the photoreceptor. We
have found that cell polarity genes provide essential cues
for the photoreceptors. Mutations in cell polarity genes are
associated with human retinal diseases, indicating that the
Drosophila eye is an ideal model for studying the
mechanism of such human retina diseases.
